Today, I went to one of our local beauty spots, Westport Lake.  The weather was gorgeous so I felt I just had to go and make the most of it.

The main lake at Westport.

The image above is of the main (larger) lake, but today I opted to walk around the small one.  Even though it is considerably smaller, I was not disappointed.  There was plenty of action and lots to photograph, from large Canada geese, to tiny leaf beetles.

A Canada Goose.  Very common at Westport Lake.

Agelastica alni (The alder leaf beetle).

As I walked around the lake, I enjoyed taking in the environment, listening to the sounds of nature and just enjoyed the heat.  It was about 20 degrees celsius today - a much-needed change of weather!  Let's hope it's a sign of things to come!

Two friends enjoy walking their companions.

I love to visit natural places of beauty like this.  I could spend all day sitting by a lake, looking out across the water, taking in everything around me.  It's tranquil.  Peaceful.  Exciting.  It connects you with nature and there's no other feeling like it.

If you walk through a busy city centre with lots of cars and noise and people left, right and centre, you simply cannot experience the same feelings that you would if you went into a nature reserve, for example.  It's night and day.

The beauty of nature.

You don't need to go far to enjoy nature.  I am certain that wherever you life in the world, you can find a natural area of outstanding beauty not far from your home.  A park, woodland, a river, lake or pond.  It doesn't need to be a huge area.  If you could just take the time to search and find, you will be glad you did.

Spending time in nature is so worthwhile and beneficial.

I am struggling to find the words to describe today's adventure, so I will end this blog with some more images from our visit to Westport Lake.

Please enjoy :)
